The Nashville Wind Symphony is coming to life as the legacy of a proud musical past. This new organization is a continuation of more than thirty years of inspired performances, dedicated musicianship, and meaningful contributions to the Nashville community by the former Nashville Wind Ensemble and the Green Hills Wind Symphony. We are grateful for the conductors, members, and supporters who shaped those ensembles.

The Nashville Wind Symphony will be different from its predecessors in some significant ways: It is not affiliated with or supported by a university, nor governed solely by the music director. Instead, it will operate independently, through a collaborative leadership model that includes an engaged Board of Directors and other leadership positions drawn from within the performing membership. Artistic direction, organizational priorities, and community engagement will be shaped collectively, reflecting shared values of musical excellence, transparency, and sustainability.

We are happy to report that on January 5, 2026, we received our determination of 501(c)3 tax-exempt status from the IRS. Having 501(c)3 status is an application requirement for virtually all significant sources of grant funding, however most funders also require that an organization have operated for a year or more as a non-profit with this status. As a result, our first season must be totally funded through member and community support. We will begin applying for grant funding immediately, but it will likely be 2027 before we begin receiving any such funds at all.

As we approach our first rehearsals and concert as a new ensemble, we invite you to play a part in establishing the foundation of this new organization that honors its history while embracing a forward-looking, enduring future for wind music in Nashville.
